Having meant to get to 2 or 3 museums on Sunday, I ended up getting to none at all. Others things to do, general malaise, that sort of thing. And what sealed it was stumbling across
this while researching the museums for the day. The Art Fund seems eminently worthwhile, in terms of supporting art and museums- and incidentally, membership provides free entry to numerous museums (and National Trust properties) around the country. Two of the three museums I was planning to visit on Sunday are free entry for Art Fund members, so that kinda stalled that. I have joined the Art Fund and eagerly await my membership.
I'm out of London for work for a couple of days, in Hull. Although it's not a museum, I'm staying in a private company hotel (nice that such things still exist) and its quite impressive - a large early Victorian house, almost a mansion, with mostly period features, all lovingly maintained.
My favourite bits - a billiards room (who doesn't need one of these) and a conservatory built on an existing folly, which itself is made entirely from reclaimed church masonry - gargoyles, and a fireplace built entirely from pinnacles. 'Quirky' doesn't do it justice
